Welcome to Order the Mess

I will never pretend I can make your life work perfectly. No one can.

But I can help you figure out how it can work more efficiently - One space at a time.

My Method

Assess

Before starting any organizing, you must have an attainable goal. In this initial stage I meet you in the space, ask lots of questions, then spend time designing a plan to help achieve your goal.

Empty

This step is exactly what it sounds like. We empty EVERYTHING. It's messy! But the best way to make a space work is to look at all the pieces individually and analyze without assumption.

Sort

Once everything is out, we spend time sorting and categorizing. Grouping things helps determine what types of containers are needed to organize your space to function best.

House

This is the fun part where all the hard work comes together and the beauty of order is realized. Each group is put into a container that works best so it can be housed where it belongs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the organization process typically take?

The duration of the organization process varies depending on the size and complexity of the space. During the assessment stage, we will discuss your desired timeline. The plan I create afterward will give a better idea of how long it should take.

Do you offer virtual organization services?

Not usually. Organization is done best in person, hands on. It is possible there could be some exceptions to this but that would be decided on a case-by-case basis.

What sets Order the Mess apart from other organization companies?

Organization isn't about living with everything in place all the time. It is about knowing everything HAS a place to belong. It is about knowing when its time to clean up and when its time to just be with family, friends and neighbors. With this in mind, when I meet with you initially I ask you to think about things like life calling, stage of life, and your desired purpose for the spaces that frustrate you. I prioritize personalized and sustainable organization solutions tailored to your specific needs. My process allows me to focus on helping you establish long-term solutions that work for living, not just a picture at the end of the project. We do a lot of talking during the project, and once the project is done, we sit down for a debrief to discuss habits I noticed along the way, suggestions for keeping things organized and how the project goals at the beginning compare with the final outcome. When the arrangement of your stuff serves your personal callings and purposes, it actually provides a more relaxed way of living in the mess of life. Cleaning up is simple when you know where everything belongs. Whether you need help decluttering or just figuring out how to utilize a space, I am committed to helping you find an order that breeds a more peaceful way of living.

What kinds of things do you organize?

Everything! I have organized small spaces such as one closet, large spaces like garages, whole houses, offices, paperwork, etc.

Do I have to purchase new containers?

Not necessarily. Oftentimes clients have lots of containers but just aren't utilizing them in a way that works best. Additionally, some people are fine with mismatched containers and can gather lots of things they already own that can simply be used differently for better organization. There are times when it is necessary to purchase new organizational items. Much of the answer to how much, if anything needs to be purchased will depend on your goals, preferences, and of course, budget.

About Me

I am a wife and mother of 4 with a passion for order that helps things work a little smoother even though life will always throw unknown and sometimes unwanted things your way. I was not always organized but I have always been competitive. When I was a teenager, my parents added on to our house giving my older sister and I each our own rooms. During the years of sharing, my sister complained constantly that our messy room was my fault. Though I always denied it, she wasn't wrong. but the moment she moved out was the moment I determined to live differently and win the debate. From that day, my competitive spirit revealed a passion for order that has manifested itself in organizing (both well and poorly) all areas of my life - from daily schedules for my babies, to meal plans, to the annual clean out of the garage, to notebooks on how to move a family of 6 across the country! My professional organizing career began with friends asking me to share some of these things with them. Then a neighbor asked me to help her figure out how to order her home office and then someone suggested I use the things I had learned over the years to build a career. I have loved it! And my competitive nature has never died. I love being challenged by spaces I've never done before with needs that seem impossible. I live by the motto, "If something needs to be done, the question is not, 'can we?' but 'HOW can we?'"
